“Ok so I went over everything you gave me and you do have legal standing. Technically, Connor was kidnapped so now that you found him we can get a subpoena for a DNA test that’s viable for court and the ball would be in your court,” Walters told Erin as he sat in her office. Erin nodded at the lawyer and took off her glasses before saying,” I will get back to you on all that but I need to make sure there is no way this can implicate anyone in my family.” Walters nodded and the two lawyers continued talking until Erin made her way to Frank’s house.
“Well, is there anything you can find out,” Danny asked his kids and niece and Nicky held up her phone to say,” Everyone has a social media and he is no different. No offence to the rest of us but Uncle Jamie this kid is in everything from swimming to basketball to baseball to painting. I mean, there are pictures that he’s been tagged in and they are just as amazing.”
Nodding, they looked at the different photos before the doorbell rang and they looked at each other. “UH, Dad,” Jamie said from the doorway and was surprised when he opened the door and saw Connor standing there being held tightly by an officer.
“He yours,” the cop asked and Jamie nodded, not able to use actual words as he found that Connor, himself, came to get him. The agent nodded and none too gently pushed Connor through the doorway who hid behind Jamie.
“I suggest you teach him some manners because next time I catch him he’ll be in a jail cell,” Connor held onto the back of Jamie’s shirt because this cop was next level scary and the only thing seeming to stop him was Jamie. So, screw having powers, screw being able to use electricity whenever he wanted, he was not going to sit in a jail cell.
Jamie gave repeated assurances to the man but he didn’t let up. Finally, he called out to his Dad whose entrance caused the man to finally shut up. “What exactly happened,” Frank asked and the officer pointed at Connor who simply moved more behind Jamie who stopped him and made him stand next to him.
“The kid broke am electrical line that caused a spark that caused a police cruiser,” the man tried to explain but Connor interrupted him,” NO, I didn’t. You just think I did.” Jamie shushed him with a glare and he crossed his arms over himself before staring at the floor. “Jamie, why don’t you take Luke into the living room while I clear this up?” Connor looked like he was about to argue but Jamie grabbed his arm and steered him into the living room.
The entire room stopped what they were doing and looked at him which made Conner take a few steps back before muttering,” There are a lot of you.” Jamie sighed at him but they heard a gasp from the other side of the room. “Eddie,” Jamie said but she didn’t stop as she quickly walked over to her eldest son. Connor gasped as the woman hugged him and his hands flexed at where they stayed by his sides.
“Well, Officer Lewis took his leave but perhaps you’d like to explain what he meant by electric line,” Frank said as he stood there with his arms crossed and gave Connor that look that made him want to run out of there and up a tree. “Well, I mean it wasn’t like a whole electrical line,” seeing the disbelief that crossed their faces he held up both hands and said,” OK. That-that sounds bad. But,” and as he stumbled through his words heat ran up his neck and he took a breath as he said,” I’m just gonna go,” and turned around but stopped short when he saw Danny standing there.
He let out a small yelp and said,” Y’all are everywhere and it’s a bit creepy.” Danny shook his head and turned him back around to face everybody. Connor played with the hem of his shirt as he stared at all of them staring back at him. “It was an accident. No one was supposed to get hurt,” he admitted quietly when no one let up. “KIds, go outside. Maddy, keep an eye on your siblings,” Jamie said and Connor only moved back to let them through.
“How,” was all Eddie could think to ask and Connor asked,”Can I see your phone?” Jamie handed his over but it was less than 30% so he didn’t think too much of it. “I’m gonna do something that I am gonna regret so please,” he muttered and then let his fingers twitch as electricity entered the phone and it charged to 100%.
“How,” again was all Eddie could think to ask and Connor shook his head,”Long story short, my first foster father I was with him for 5 years and he basically was a mad scientist. He made me into this thing. I manipulate electricity, lift things with my mind. Uh, yeah. He died and I started living with my current foster father after a year. He helped me control everything.” He then felt a flash of nausea that had him bent over out of breath.
Jamie was behind him within seconds rubbing his back and gently helping him over to the couch. Sitting down, Connor looked at the light, staring at it until he felt his veins bulge under his skin before he gasped and sat back. “That is what happens when I use too much power at once,” he said and then gasped trying to get his body under control.
“Why don’t you rest for a while. We can talk when you wake up,” Eddie said and Connor tried to object but found that he was really tired so when Eddie started playing with his hair and humming a bit he was knocked out. Eddie looked up at her husband before saying,”He looks just like you.” Jamie nods and then leans down to place a chaste kiss on the boy’s forehead.
