Alexander walked quietly to his apartment after finishing up his night classes and yawned as he opened the door. Thankfully, he did not have class in the morning the next day because he was not sure he would be able to stay awake during it. He flipped on the light before jumping when he saw Damien sitting on his couch with a gun in his hand.
He moved back to try and get away but couldn't get the door open as if someone had sealed it shut. Hearing the footsteps behind him he turned around, hoping to find another way out but instead came face-to-face with the man who smirked at him while his gaze fell to the gun that was nested just below his ribs.
It wouldn't be a fatal shot but even if he did manage to somehow get away, he would bleed out before he could finally get any medical help. The man smirked as he put his hands up to show that he didn't want any trouble before stepping back and making a show with the gun for him to move on towards the small sitting area.
As he stepped out and took a seat on the chair so that his back was to the door, Damien made himself comfortable on the couch as he stretched out and waved the gun all over the place. "Very nice, Xander. I'm sure your Father would love to see what you've done with all the money you keep refusing to take from him," he smirked but Alexander simply looked at the weapon until Damien noticed and smiled as he tucked it into the waistband of his slacks.
"Happy?," he rhetorically asked before pretending to lower his voice as if he was telling Alexander a secret,"Needed to be prepared incase someone else decided to come in," his tone turned slightly angry as he asked,"Are you Xander? Seeing anybody, I mean," at the hate-filled gaze he got in return he pretended to act surprised before nodding his head,"Oh, right, right. She died, didn't she, Xander?," he shook his head as he pretended to show remorse which set Alexander off as he growled,"My name is not Xander. I suggest you watch yourself, Damien. We both know what happened to her and it was no accident. Now tell me what you want and get the hell out. You are not welcome here."
Damien turned serious as he leaned forward and reached into his pocket. Alexander tensed thinking it was another weapon but the man simply smiled as he retracted a letter and held it out to Alexander. Looking at it wearily, Alexander was tempted not to take it before his eye caught sight of his Uncle's family stamp on it. Hesitation turning into excitement he grabbed it with a smile as he hadn't spoken to his Uncle in a while.
Except when he ripped it open it wasn't his Uncle's handwriting that greeted him, but his Fathers. He looked at Damien who simply shrugged as he nodded to the letter before looking back down and reading through it. "Dear son," the beginning made him snort before his brows furrowed when he read why his Father contacted him directly for the first time in close to 4 years.
Throwing the letter at Damien's feet he glared at the man before hissing,"What the hell, Damien. Why would you put my name in the running for my father's successor?" All pretenses of amusement gone, Damien shot up and leaned over Alexander who backed more into the chair as he held onto both sides tight enough that his knuckled almost turned white. Leaning down he whispered,"You ran away so happily leaving the rest of us behind to struggle. Now, Xander," he said the name with enough venom to make Alexander flinch before continuing,"You can come back and claim what is rightfully yours, you ignavum nominare (coward)."
Alexander stood up to his full height forcing Damien back who smirked as he saw the fire in his old friend's eyes. "Watch yourself, Damien," Alexander said which made Damien chuckled before he shoved him back. When that didn't get a reaction out of him he shoved him again but this time Alexander shoved him back before smacking him across the face. Damien's head whipped to the side before he brought a hand up to hold his jaw as he tensed before looking at Alexander out of the corner of his eye who was staring down at his hand in shock.
Alexander felt horrible as he looked down at his hand and the realization that he raised his hand against someone settled in. Looking up, he mistook Damien's stance and silence for hurt and quickly moved forward apologizing,"Damien, I apologize. It was not my intention- I would never," except he was cut off when Damien backhanded him and then used a switchblade to cut into his torso. Holding in his scream, he used his leg to kick him off before getting off the floor and moving forward to rush him.
Only Damien was prepared as he held his gun ready to shoot Alexander who stopped and put his hand up but made no move to move back. Damien faltered which caused Alexander to smirk before he used his leg to swipe his leg out from under him and grab the gun. Damien yelled out as he went crashing to the floor before freezing when Alexander pointed his own gun at him. Only Alexander emptied out the round and let the bullets fall to the floor as he clicked the safety on and held it out to Damien who took it.
"I'm sorry," Alexander admitted as Damien got up and dusted himself off. Damien laughed for real this time before shaking his head and telling him,"I was out of line, as well. I shouldn't have called you a coward." Alexander nodded his acceptance before putting his right hand out for Damien to shake. The man raised an eyebrow before clasping his hand and then pulling him in for a hug which made him tense up before he relaxed and patted him on the back.
"Damien," Alexander said as he felt something rest on his lower back and tensed up as Damien whispered,"Ssh, I'm sorry brother but you'll only feel a small pinch," which is the last thing he heard before he felt his legs give out from under him as he slowly fell to the floor, falling unconscious. Damien helped lower his friend to the floor and watched as his head lulled to the side and he entered what he called a "deep sleep".
Sitting his legs he released a deep breath before taking out his phone and calling in the rest of his team that was waiting outside. Alexander would hate him for this but at least it meant another day for him to live. As the men entered he caught the keys one of them threw him before nodding his head towards Alexander,"Be careful and don't touch anything. We don't know just how much he's changed yet." A burly man nodded and easily lifted Alexander over his shoulder as if he weighed less than a feather and began to make his way down the stairs and out the back entrance where the car was waiting.
Damien waited until they all filed out before putting on his black gloves and began looking through the small apartment. He opened up cupboards and drawers, going so far as to look under the bed but he couldn't find anything that he could give the boss to explain Alexander's life over the past 4 years. Opening the small closet, he scoffed at the menial belongings in there before his eye caught a shoe box resting nestled away in the corner.
Shrugging, he reached for it and popped it open before his eyes went wide as he saw pictures of a small family. It was a man, a woman, and a baby. Flipping over the card he furrowed his eyebrows as he saw the note 'Thank you for all your help. I couldn't have done it without you. I love you and make sure you visit soon. Jane misses her favorite uncle' the card wasn't signed which made Damien curse under his breath before he looked through the other things. There were more photos but as he got closer to the bottom saw a bunch of unsent letters sitting there with no address.
Opening one of them he was surprised to see Alexander's elegant handwriting, something no one else in his family had, as he wrote to the woman in the photo. He wrote with fondness but it wasn't an intimate type of love, it was more of a protective best friend type which made Damien roll his eyes. A man that couldn't protect his first family, would never be able to protect a second.
Putting all the items back in the shoebox he picked it up before making sure everything was as it was when he came in. Climbing out the window he came in from he sat in the driver's seat of the car before looking over at Alexander who was unconscious in the front seat. Luckily, they had tinted windows but as he looked closely he saw drying blood on his forehead and turned back to stare at the rest of the men.
"Not me," the burly one said as he put his hands up in surrender and Damien glared down each one of them one-by-one before the only one who was idiotic enough to challenge his leader said,"Relax, Damien. He must have hit his head by accident. It's dangerous out there," his voice sounded mocking and the sound of his gloves tightening around the gear could be heard as Damien wrapped his fist over the top of it.
Starting the car he waited a moment before saying,"You're right. It is a very dangerous world. I would watch out who you manage to piss off".
