16 years later and the presence of baby Luke was still missed. Jamie was drying the plates used during dinner but was frozen as he stared at his children play with their nieces and nephews in the front lawn. It didn’t get easier knowing that somewhere in the world his son was missing all of this.
“I miss him, too,” Eddie said as she walked into the kitchen and saw her husband standing in the same position she’s caught him in numerous times. Jamie faintly smiled and said,” It’s my fault. If I had just been more vigilant then I could have done something. I should have listened to you when you told me to take their prints right then and there instead of waiting, I’m sorry.” As Jamie recited the same apology he had uttered every time their missing son came up, Eddie went up to him and wrapped her arms around his torso so that her head was resting against his back.
“Jamie, I never blamed you for what happened. We’re ok. You’re a great Father and as selfish as it might sound, we still got to raise 3 amazing kids,” Eddie told him and Jamie nodded but Eddie’s words did little to loosen the coil of dread that was locked in place in his stomach.
Elsewhere five teenagers were crowded around a small fire in the corner of a beach as they sang tunes and ate snacks telling jokes and laughing. “Ok. Ok. So, everyone’s packed for tomorrow right?” Jonas asked for the umpteenth time and got shoved by Janet and Mark which left him groaning.
Connor, a young 16-year-old boy with dark brown hair and blue eyes, laughed at his friend’s expense and said,”1 whole month without adult supervision in New York. The Big Apple.” They all nodded and Riley played around with the s'more in her hand before asking,” How did your Dad let you go again? I mean, he is insanely overprotective.” Connor shrugged and strummed a tune before answering,” Grandparents are flying in the day after tomorrow I’m guessing they thought it was a good way for them to get rid of me for the time being.”
They all nodded and Riley teased,” Play, Connor. It’s why we keep you here.” jokingly and Connor nodded before starting to sing Viva la Vida and playing the guitar version. They all laughed and smiled as they joined in with the chorus. After an hour Connor excused himself claiming he needed to get home.
Driving home Connor stopped near the trail that started close to his house and killed the engine. From the back, he grabbed his bag and phone before making his way up the trail and stopping at his favourite waterfall. Sitting down, he pulled out the papers that were mailed to him 2 weeks ago and played with the flap of the envelope. He still didn’t have the strength to open the papers and see who his birth parents were.
“You can do it. Just open them and see. You should know,” Connor muttered to himself trying to open the package but after a few minutes, he sighed and just shoved it back to the bottom of the bag. Leaning back he stared up at the stars until he felt a buzzing in his jeans and pulled out his phone.
“Yeah, Corey. I know. I’m on my way home. Yeah, I know where the spare key is. I’ll use it if the lights are off. Ok, yeah, bye,” Connor said to his foster Dad and then shut his phone off before sighing. He knew early on that he wasn’t related to his parents because one they were gay and two well, they were gay.
Grabbing his bag Connor ran to his car and drove home stopping at a red light. He opened the sunroof and drummed his fingers on the steering wheel as the light turned green. Putting the car in drive he drove forward but was slammed into the side by another car and went spinning. Once the car stopped spinning Connor gasped as he opened his eyes and found the car flipped over.
Punching the side door repeatedly until it opened he crawled out as his wounds healed so all that was left was the blood and groaned. “Help. Help. Please. Oh my God. Please. Help,” he heard and looked up from where he was laying facedown to see that a man was hovering by the outside of his car and could hear the sound of a woman and children screaming.
Gasping at the pain in his side Connor stretched out a hand and a burst of energy went through the floor before entering the wife and child so they would be safe. Feeling his still healing wounds open up again Connor groaned and got up, limping away. People yelled after him but he simply grabbed his bag from the backseat of the car and began limping home before slipping in through the front door.
“Really, again Connor,” his Dad said as he quietly made his way through the front of the house and he stopped short. Slipping off his backpack Connor sighed before saying,” They came out of nowhere. He hit me, I swear,” he said at the look on his Dad’s face and then looked around before muttering,” I had to transfer some energy into them. There were children.”
Looking annoyed the sheriff said,” You can’t use your powers on a whim. It is dangerous and I can’t protect you all the time.” Nodding Connor shrugged before saying,” I’m sorry.” Looking annoyed, the man said,” Just go get your bags and be ready to leave. And no more playing with your powers. You hear me,” nodding Connor grabbed his bag and went into the downstairs room.
Closing the door he curled up his shirt and groaned at the bruise on his abs. Going into the bathroom he sighed before turning on the lights and then the sink. Scrubbing the tiredness out of his face Connor sighed and put his hand up to the bathroom light to absorb some of the energy. Looking up, he sighed as his veins glowed light blue and his energy replenished itself.
P.S The face-claim for Luke (Connor) is going to be Paul Wesley
