When Connor woke up he gasped and looked around. Remembering everything from yesterday he ran a hand down his face before getting up and picking up his shoes. Tiptoeing to the door he tried to ease it open but found that it was locked. Looking annoyed he tried to play with the locks to open it but couldn’t.
“Just turn it to the left and undo the chain on the top,” Madeline said as she showed up behind him with her arms crossed over her chest. Turning around, Connor nodded and followed the directions before opening the door. “He’ll find you,” Madeline said out of nowhere and when Connor turned to look at her shrugged and explained,”My Dad never told me I had a twin until yesterday. How can you just walk away?”
Connor sighed before saying,”This is your family, not mine. I don’t belong here. The white picket-fence, the parents that are there, people to trust- that’s not me. I don’t get that. I’m sorry.” He turned to walk back out but Madeline grabbed his arm and said,”You have that. You’ve had that for the last 16 years. Even if I didn’t know why I could tell that something was missing from this family. Please, don’t go.” Connor gently moved his arm away from Madeline and said,”I’m sorry, again.” Then, he turned to walk out the door, ignoring the kids who were playing in the front yard.
“Jamie, Jamie,” Eddie yelled as she saw Connor walk out of the house and cross the street. Jamie, Danny, and Frank walked out to the front while Erin and Eddie followed them. “MARISSA,” Maz screamed as he saw his youngest niece run out into the road to catch one of the bouncy balls that had rolled away. Marissa froze as she saw the car coming towards her and the man inside didn’t see the little girl who was hidden by the front of his car. Connor looked back when he heard the yell and threw off his backpack before zipping across the street and grabbed the frightened girl, holding his other arm up so a wall of electricity formed.
The driver yelled as he swerved but Connor was quick to send out a bolt of energy that stopped him from crashing up onto the crossroad. “Marissa,” Jack and Willow exclaimed as they ran out to meet Connor who handed her off to them. The poor kid clung to her parents while Connor excused himself and went to the driver. The man was stuttering incoherently as he got out of the car and muttered “Boy” “Energy” “Blue”, he then pointed at Marissa before saying,”Girl.”
Connor rolled his eyes and used his hands to bunch up the man’s collar and keep him against the car as he put his hand on the side of the man’s face and wiped everything that happened in the last few minutes. Gasping, the man opened his eyes and then shoved Connor away before saying,”What do you think you’re doing, kid?” Connor smiled peacefully before saying,”Oh, I was just walking down the street when I saw you swerve. Must have seen a cat or something. Good thing you didn’t get hurt too bad.” The man nodded before sitting in his car and driving away.
Connor watched him drive away before rolling his eyes and muttering,”Shtick.” He turned around to grab his backpack but was shocked when he came face to face with Eddie and Danny. “I’m just gonna go,” he said but knew it was useless as Eddie grabbed his arm and said,”Look at me. Are you looking at me?,” Connor nodded his head and Eddie continued,”Good. You’re not going anywhere. Is that clear? You are part of this family and yes, we missed 16 years, but we don’t plan on missing anymore. So, you’re going to come inside with us and eat something because you need to get some food in you and then we will deal with figuring out the paperwork.”
Connor looked at the woman half shocked and half frightened as he opened his mouth to say something before Eddie cut him off and said,”The next thing coming out of your mouth best be yes, ma’am or else you won’t be happy.” Connor pointed to his backpack that was a few feet away from them and said,”I just wanted to get my backpack off the road.” Eddie nodded and let him go and Connor dug his hands into his pockets as he walked over to where his backpack dropped before picking it up, slinging it over his shoulder.
He followed them inside and was surprised when Madeline grabbed his arm and whispered,”I told you, you wouldn’t be going anywhere.” Connor rolled his eyes and pulled his arm back. He was ushered to the table and his eyes widened at all the food on the table. He looked at all the adults and then down at himself before muttering,”Lord.” The rest also sat down and Will shared a look with Max who nodded at him.
When Connor looked away to talk to Jamie about something Will emptied a couple packets worth of red chili flakes on the pasta that was sitting on his plate and then sat back. Madi saw it as it happened and her eyes widened before she smirked and sat back.
“We say grace before we eat,” Jamie said to his son who nodded and put his hands together before bowing his forehead. “You can say it,” Danny offered and Connor nodded saying the quick blessing. As Connor took a bite of the pasta he coughed a bit before covering it up but before he could take another bite his mouth felt like it was on fire.
Spitting out the little that was on his mouth into a napkin he gulped down his own water before getting up and grabbing the pitcher of water. His hands were shaking from the spice and he ditched the glass to drink straight from the pitcher of water which did little to help him. “Spicy, very, very, spicy,” he mumbled and had tears in his eyes from how much his mouth burned.
“Will, Max,” John scolded when he caught the two trying to hide smiles. Eventually, they couldn’t help it and burst out laughing while Madi handed over a glass of milk to Connor who was coughing from the spice and not being able to get air into his lungs. Without a thank you, he chugged down the glass and then said,”That’s very funny. Almost as funny as this.” He then levitated the pitcher of water before letting it spill all over the two who gasped.
Gently, he placed the pitcher back down and then smirked at the two. “OH, it is so on,” Max growled playfully as he and Will ran from the room and Connor squinted his eyes. “That was a bad idea,” Madi said as she came to stand by her twin. Connor shrugged and said,”Well, I need a partner-in-crime. What do you say?” Madeline makes a face before saying,”Sure, but we get Max first.” Connor raises a hand and says,”Sure.” They shake on it and then run up to Jamie’s old room while Jane asks,”Can I be excused, too?” Jamie laughs and Jack gently pulls out his daughter’s chair and nods.
